There wasn't anything specifically wrong with Blood Vice, aside from the mafia angle which I'm not a great fan of. I made it to about 20% - the writing was solid and the pacing was good.
The real problem I guess is that the heroine was not someone I could feel any kind of empathy for. The book lost me the minute she suggested turning the rival family's prostitutes into vampires to cost them money. It was an ugly devaluing of already victimised women that turned my stomach. The fact that it came from the female lead tells me I'm unlikely to find any satisfaction in the development arc of this character. YMMV.
